The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), under the leadership of Professor Segun Ajiboye, hinted on Sunday 22, 2019 that 53,674 candidates passed the November diet of the Professional Qualification Examination, PQE, handled by the council to certify Nigerian teachers.

The breakdown, according to the TRCN boss reveals that 72,947 candidates sat for the examinations across the country, and out of which 19,273 failed.

Ajiboye commended the efforts of teachers in Nigeria to improved delivery of service despite the numerous challenges they face. He also lauded the support given to the council to reposition the teaching profession in Nigeria.

Lagos State has the highest number of candidates who took the examination with 8,224 out of which 6,067 passed the examination. It was followed by Oyo State which has 5,599 out of which 4,243 passed and Kaduna State with 4,008 and 3,769 passed.

The Council’s boss also reiterated that the exercise is a continuous exercise and advised those not qualified to register and take the next diet to escape the sanction which awaited the unqualified teachers in 2020.

Speaking further;

"PQE is
a continuous exercise and the door is still open to those who have not
registered to register. And those who did not pass the examination still have
the opportunity of retaking the examinations. The close of the deadline does
not imply that PQE has stopped.
“Registration
for the next diet of the examination has commenced in all TRCN centres around
Nigeria.
“We
appreciate the commitment of the Nigerian teachers to excellent delivery
despite challenges they face and their support to TRCN in its efforts to
reposition the teaching profession in Nigeria.

The House of Reps Committee on Public Accounts has issued a 30-days ultimatum to YABATECH to prepare and present its account details to the office of the Auditor General of the Federation.

Also, the committee said if YABATECH failed to comply with the order, the National Assembly would have no choice but to hold back the allocation to the institution for 2020.

Appearing before the committee to investigate refusal by partially-funded and non-treasury funded agencies, the Rector, Mr. Obafemi Omokungbe said he assumed office in 2018 and that these accounts are not ready as the external auditors are yet to submit the reports.

On the other hand, the committee members rejected Omokungbe’s submission and agreed to place YABATECH on status inquiry and further probe into its financial details.

Mr. Oluwole Oke, the Chairman of the Committee said;

“It is not going to be business as usual. Let me sound a note of warning to those heads of MDAs hiding under the pretext of being new in office or absence of governing boards to approve their audited accounts as a deliberate cover-up for not remitting their audited accounts to the Auditor General of the Federation as and when due.

 “We, as a committee, will fish out those involved and publish their names and their MDAs in the national dailies. We are compiling their names; there will be no hiding place for them. This is not a threat; we are going to carry it out to the letter.”
